Cost questions

How much do solar panels cost in 2026?

A solar-only system from Pro-Fit starts at £6,000 for six panels (2.79kWp) and rises to £7,200 for twelve panels (5.58kWp). These are guide prices, and every one is fixed in writing after a free survey, so what you see here is the starting point for a conversation, not the final figure.

Guide prices for solar only by number of panels, fully installed with scaffolding and 0% VAT
SystemOutputSolar only
6 panels2.79 kWp£6,000
8 panels3.72 kWp£6,400
10 panels4.65 kWp£6,800
12 panels5.58 kWp£7,200

The jump between array sizes is smaller than you might expect. Going from six panels to twelve roughly doubles the panel count for £1,200 more, because the scaffolding, inverter, wiring and paperwork cost much the same either way. That is also why a six panel system rarely suits a household that uses a lot of daytime power: the fixed costs are spread over less generation.

How much does a solar battery cost?

Added to a solar system, a 6kWh battery adds between £1,700 and £1,800 to the price, and a 12kWh battery adds between £3,300 and £3,500, depending on array size. Here is the same table with both battery options alongside the solar-only price.

SystemOutputSolar only+ 6kWh battery+ 12kWh battery
6 panels2.79 kWp£6,000£7,800£9,500
8 panels3.72 kWp£6,400£8,200£9,900
10 panels4.65 kWp£6,800£8,500£10,100
12 panels5.58 kWp£7,200£8,900£10,500

A battery does one job: it stores the electricity your panels generate during the day so you have it to draw on in the evening, or overnight if you charge it further on a cheap tariff. A 6kWh battery covers a typical evening's use. A 12kWh battery holds enough to get a home through the night as well. Which one makes sense depends on how much of your day you spend at home and what your evening routine looks like, and that is a question for the survey, not a guess from a brochure.

Batteries and inverters come from Fox ESS, Sigenergy, Sunsynk and Powervault, and the exact make and model is named on your written quotation. The full specification for solar and battery work sits on our renewables page.

What does a solar panel installation cost include?

Every price in the tables above includes the same things, whatever the array size:

  • DMEGC 465W all-black panels
  • A hybrid inverter, battery-ready from day one even if you do not choose a battery now
  • The battery itself, where you select one, set up for off-peak charging
  • Scaffolding, put up and taken down (we arrange and pay for this; it is inside the price, not added after)
  • Bird protection around the panels
  • A monitoring app, set up before we leave
  • Grid connection paperwork and the handover pack
  • Help registering for export payments

Whole-home backup, where key circuits keep running through a power cut, is not in these tables because it depends on which circuits you want covered. It is specified and priced in writing after the survey.

Workmanship carries our own two year guarantee. Panels carry up to 25 years from the manufacturer, the battery up to 12 years (confirmed in your handover pack), and the inverter for whatever term is stated on your quote. We handle manufacturer claims on your behalf rather than leaving you to chase them.

What can change the price after the survey?

The table prices a standard install. A few things at survey can move the figure up or down:

Roof access and pitch. A steep roof, a roof reached only from one side of the house, or scaffolding that has to go over a conservatory takes longer to erect and comes down to the quote.

Roof condition. If a roof has significant life left in it, panels go straight on. If it does not, we will say so before you commit to panels, because fitting them to a roof that needs attention within a few years means paying to take them off again later.

Battery choice and brand. The table shows our standard 6kWh and 12kWh options. A different capacity, or a specific manufacturer for a particular reason, is quoted separately.

Electrical work beyond the standard connection. An older consumer unit or a long cable run to the inverter location can add work that a newer installation would not need.

None of this is a surprise added after the work starts. It is why the survey happens before the price is fixed in writing, the same sequence set out on how an installation runs from survey to handover, and why that written price, once you have it, does not move.

Why do some quotes look cheaper?

A lower number on a competing quote is sometimes just a lower number, and sometimes it is missing something that is in ours. Worth checking what is and is not included before comparing two figures side by side:

Is scaffolding in the price, or added once the survey has happened. Is the inverter battery-ready, so a battery can be added later without replacing it, or will that mean new hardware. Is bird protection included or a separate line. Is there a written workmanship guarantee, and for how long. Is the battery brand named on the quote, or left open.

We are not going to tell you another installer's numbers are wrong. We can tell you what ours cover, which is everything above, inside the figure in the table, with the battery and inverter brands named before you sign anything.
